Expanding Your Horizons
(EYH)

Expanding Your Horizons is a program offering 5th-8th grade girls a day of career exploration in math, science and technology.  This program was originally started by AAUW and is now organized and managed by SMARTgirls.  The Seattle Expanding Your Horizons (SEYH) conferences are held each year at the campus of Seattle University.  The Seattle Branch AAUW continues to support this conference by participating in planning and volunteering on the day of the event.

Women's Shelters   We collect items annually for various women's shelters in the Seattle area.

Support and Sponsorship   In recent years Seattle Branch AAUW helped support and sponsor several organizations we believe contribute to our mission of education and equity for all women and girls.

GambiaHELP (Gambia Health, Education Liason Project, started by Shelby Tarutis) exists to enable communities in Gambia to protect, conserve and improve their own health, the health of their community, and their natural environment. By providing books, educational opportunities, seed money, and human resources, GambiaHELP enables communities in Gambia to build a sustainable economy and environment.  www.GambiaHELP.org

The Urban League Village/Northwest African American Museum - Transforming the Colman School into the Northwest African American Museum. At 17,000 sq. ft., the Museum will be one of the largest community museums in the Puget Sound area. The two floors of affordable housing rental units are designed to address an Urban League goal of offering high quality, affordable housing for artists, historians, teachers, and others who would be attracted by the activities of the Museum. www.urbanleague.org   NAAM Donation Letter

Middle School Robotics: We are delighted to help sponsor the participation of girls in the 4H West Seattle Robotics Club.  This program introduces middle school youth to principals of engineering and cultivates interest in math and science through experiential learning.  By mixing the club with boys and girls, youths will develop important social skills and the confidence to learn in a mixed group setting.  We applaud their work and encourage their progress. http://home.earthlink.net/~kloren89/

Central Asia Institute.  Greg Mortenson is the founder of this organization whose mission is to promote literacy, women's vocational skills, and awareness of public health and environmental issues through community initiated education programs in mountain regions of Central Asia.  www.ikat.org

Code Blue Now!™ is a broad based, non-partisan health care forum with large scale organizing networks. It is a vehicle for all who care to create a better future for health care in the U.S. It offers people the tools they need to navigate the currently fragmented and complex health care landscape.  Kathleen O'Conner has been a long time advocate for health care reform in the United States.  www.CodeBlueNow.org
