Seattle Branch Programs 2007-2008

September, 2007  - AAUW Washington State Public Policy Chair Dixie Swenson. She spoke about two topics - the vigorously debated recent transformation of our National organization and the immediate public policy issues facing voters in the November election.

October, 2007- Professor Laura Koutsky, PhD, of the University of Washington Epidemiology Department, School of Public Health and Community Medicine, spoke on The New HPV Vaccine and the research behind it  in our own back yard
In addition to our Saturday morning meeting, we held an evening Networking Reception in a member's home, inviting members at large (MAL's) to join our members in sharing experiences and learn more about Seattle Branch.

November 2007- Professor Theresa McCormick, PhD, Professor Emeritus, Iowa  State University on "Peace Activists: An Historical View”

December 2007--Holiday Brunch, Scholars' Dollars, and Sing-a-long- A Mini Auction  to fund our High School Scholars' Recognition Program plus donation of items and cash for Residence XII Women's Shelter.

January 12, 2008--An EF fundraiser with Highline Branch AAUW:   Rhinestone Rosie (featured on Antiques Roadshow) with an illustrated talk on costume jewelry and appraisal of antique or costume jewelry

January 19, 2008-- UW professor and Jane Austen aficionado and expert Loveday Conquest on a tour to Regency England and the land and people of Pride and Prejudice

January 28, 2008--Lobby Day in Olympia

February 21, 2008--(6 PM) UW Associate professor Angela B. Ginorio on Stories and Numbers--of Love and Pain (on violence experienced by women)

March 15, 2008--Reel Girls:  Young Filmmakers Making a Difference

March 15, 2008--Expanding Your Horizons Conference

April 19, 2008--Scholar’s Recognition Luncheon at the Hotel Deca  with speaker Dr. Judith Hall, faculty member of Holy Names Academy.

May 17, 2008--Election of officers

July 19, 2008--Powells Wood Garden Tour with Refreshments co-sponsored with Highline Branch benefiting AAUW Educational Foundation
